Survey Templates

What are survey templates?

Survey templates are your premade survey questions that you can use on any survey, preventing you from having to retype every question and answer choice again and again. No more creating the same survey questions from scratch.

These templates can be used on Screeners as well. More on screeners and surveys in our Screeners and Surveys guide.

How do I create survey templates?

  1. From the left-hand toolbar, click Resources, then select Templates.
  2. Click Survey and then Create survey template.
    1. Or click Create a template and Survey in the top right corner.
  3. Add a title, where it says Survey template title..., to name the template.
    Specifying what type of survey template is a great idea.
  4. Create the questions you want to always have at the ready.

  5. Changes are automatically saved.

How do I edit survey templates?

  1. From the left-hand toolbar, click Resources, then select Templates.
  2. Click Survey.
  3. Find the template you want to edit and either click on the tile, or click on the three dots.
  4. If you clicked the tile, click Edit in the top right corner.
  5. If you clicked on the three dots, click Edit in the dropdown.
  6. Make your changes.
  7. Changes are automatically saved.

How do I delete survey templates?

This action cannot be undone! So please be sure you want to delete the template.
  1. From the left-hand toolbar, click Resources, then select Templates.
  2. Click Survey.
  3. Find the template you want to delete and either click on the tile, or click on the three dots.
    1. If you clicked the tile, click the trashcan in the top right corner.
    2. If you clicked on the three dots, click Delete in the dropdown.
  4. Click Confirm & delete if you are sure. If not, click Don't delete.

How do I duplicate survey templates?

  1. From the left-hand toolbar, click Resources, then select Templates.
  2. Click Survey.
  3. Find the template you want to duplicate and click on the three dots.
  4. Click Duplicate in the dropdown.
  5. Follow the steps above to edit the template, if changes are needed.
    1. Such as renaming the template.
  6. Changes are automatically saved.
  7. If no changes are needed, click the arrow in the top left corner to go back to the list of templates.

How do I use survey templates in a new study?

  1. Click New study at the top of the left sidebar menu.
    1. Or click Studies on the left sidebar menu and click the New study button in the top right-hand corner.
  2. Look for the Start from a template section and hover over the template you want to use.
  3. Click Use this template.
  4. Name your study, change the Share URL if you want to customize it, use the dropdown to select an owner, and click Continue.

How do I apply survey templates to Screeners and Surveys in already created studies (draft and published)?

These steps are also listed in our Screeners and Surveys guide. So check that out for more information about screeners and surveys.

  1. Start by clicking Screener, or Survey (depending on your study type), on the left-side menu.
  2. Click on the Library icon in the top right corner, seen below.

  1. Ensure Templates is the selected tab. (it should be, as it is the default)
  2. If you have multiple templates, you can search for the one you want at the top of the slide-out menu.
  3. Click to select the template that you want to use.
  4. Click Use this template.
  5. Click Confirm in the confirmation message.
    1. If you change your mind, after clicking Confirm, just delete the questions you want to remove, or select another template to replace all questions.
