We recommend starting your migration at least 90 days before your Dovetail contract ends to ensure a smooth handover.
Migration Phases
1. Kickoff
- Contract is signed with Great Question.
- We align on project scope: what data is moving (interviews, tags, participants, highlight reels, surveys, etc.).
- You walk our migration team through your Dovetail setup (recorded or live session).
2. Data Export & Validation
- You provide access to your Dovetail instance.
- We validate export files and confirm what will and won’t transfer.
- Optional “dry run” to preview what the import will look like.
3. Import into Great Question
- Data is migrated into your workspace.
- Files (video/audio) begin processing and new AI transcripts are generated.
- Project statuses are set to “Closed” to preserve historical accuracy.
4. Review & Sign-Off
- You review migrated data against scope.
- We document any skipped or modified content (e.g., untitled studies, unsupported file types).
- Final approval before migration is closed.
What to Expect After Migration
- Your workspace will contain imported projects and assets, with transcripts regenerated using Great Question AI.
- Users imported from Dovetail do not count toward your seat limit.
- Folders are not currently supported in Great Question.
- You’ll receive a sign-off report noting any content not imported.
Key Requirements
- Migration must occur 60+ days before your Dovetail contract ends.
- Import must happen within 14 days of export.
- Access to your Dovetail instance is required.
Supported Limits
- Max image size: 10MB
- Max participants per study: 9,999
- Max highlights per reel: 50
- Supported file types:
- Images: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif
- Media: .mp4, .mov, .m4v, .mp3
Costs

- Legacy data migrations may incur costs based on recording hours. We’ll confirm pricing before kickoff.
