Great Question’s migration service transfers your research history from Dovetail so you can consolidate recruitment, scheduling, interviews, surveys, and your repository in one platform.

What the migration does

The migration carries over your research history: interviews, transcripts, highlights, tags, and custom fields move with you. Your existing transcripts come across as-is and are then run through Great Question AI, so imported sessions get AI-generated summaries, chapters, and highlights, and are searchable through the repository and Ask AI, just like sessions recorded natively in Great Question.

Why it matters

Keep your history. Your existing interviews, transcripts, highlights, and tags come across intact. Consolidate your tooling. Recruitment, scheduling, interviews, surveys, and repository all live in Great Question after the move. Get a guided process. Our team scopes the migration to your data and walks it through export, import, and verification with you.
Migrations aren’t perfectly complete by default, some record types transfer at a lower rate than others (for example, certain tags or insight documents). After import, you’ll get a report showing what came across and what didn’t, so nothing is a surprise.

What doesn’t come across

A few things are intentionally or technically out of scope:
  • Password-protected PDFs are skipped during import.
  • Some document types attached to Insights (like PowerPoint, Word, or Excel files) aren’t supported and are skipped.
  • Folder structure isn’t recreated one-to-one, the original Dovetail project is kept as a reference attribute on the imported study instead.
If your account has data retention rules enabled, disable them before starting your migration. Imported records keep their original Dovetail creation date, and an active retention rule can delete old imported data almost immediately after import.

Getting started

Migration scope, pricing, and timeline depend on the size and complexity of your Dovetail workspace. Contact support or your Customer Success Manager to scope your migration and get a project plan.
