This guide takes you through a full research study in Great Question, choosing a study type, building it, recruiting participants, and reviewing what you learn. You can complete every step from your browser.

Before you start

Sign in at greatquestion.co. If your team already has a workspace, ask an admin to invite you; otherwise you’ll create a new workspace the first time you sign in.

1. Choose a study type

From your dashboard, select New study and pick the type that matches how you want to hear from people:
You can change most study details after creating it, but the study type is set when you create the study.

2. Build your study

Every study starts with a research plan, a title, your incentive, and how long each session should take. From there, what you build depends on the study type:
  • For a 1:1 Video Call, write your interview script, the questions and topics you’ll cover with each participant.
  • For a Survey or Unmoderated Test, add your questions and task blocks in the order participants will see them.
  • For an Online Task, add the link to the prototype or site participants will use.
You can also add a screener, a short set of qualifying questions that runs before someone joins your study, so only the right people get through.

3. Add participants

Great Question gives you two ways to recruit: Your own candidates. Upload a CSV or pick people from your existing candidate lists, then filter down to exactly who you want with segments. External recruitment. Source fresh participants through a connected panel when you need people you don’t already have. Great Question sends your screener to the panel and brings qualified responses back automatically. Once you’ve chosen who to reach, Great Question sends each person an invitation. Invitations, reminders, and thank-you messages come from ready-made templates you can customize per study.

4. Run your study

What happens next depends on the study type:
  • 1:1 Video Calls let participants book a time from your availability. You meet them over your connected video tool, Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, or Great Question’s built-in video, and the session records automatically.
  • Surveys, Online Tasks, and Unmoderated Tests run on their own. Participants complete them whenever they’re ready, and results flow in as they finish.
You can watch responses arrive in real time as participants complete your study.

5. Review results in your repository

Everything a study produces lands in your research repository, where you can:
  • Watch recorded sessions and read their transcripts
  • Clip the best moments into highlights, and group related highlights into reels
  • Write up what you learned as insights to share with your team
  • Ask AI to search across sessions, summarize themes, and suggest highlights
From here your research is searchable and shareable, so the whole team can see what customers told you, not just the person who ran the study.

Next steps

  • Explore the study types in more depth to design the right study for your goal.
  • Set up your recruiting lists and templates so your next study is faster to launch.
  • Invite teammates and set their roles so everyone has the right level of access.
