Learn how to use, create, and customize templates & guides for interviews, emails, and surveys to standardize your research process.
What are Templates & Guides?
Templates & Guides in Great Question are prebuilt frameworks that help you quickly create and standardize research materials — such as interview scripts, survey forms, and email communications.
By using templates & guides, you can:
- Maintain consistent research quality across your team
- Save time by reusing tested questions and messages
- Empower anyone on your team to run structured research
Types of Templates & Guides
There are four main types of templates & guides available:
Template or Guide Type | Purpose |
Interview Templates | Standardize interview scripts and ensure consistent questions across sessions. |
Email Templates | Prebuild communication messages (invites, confirmations, reminders). |
Survey Templates | Save and reuse survey or screener questions. |
Guide | Guides to help your team get started as soon as possible. |

- Efficiency: Save time by not reinventing the wheel for every new study.
- Scalability: Empower teammates to run studies independently using proven templates.
- Flexibility: Customize templates for different research goals, products, or personas.
How to Use Templates & Guides
Interview Templates
No more scrambling before interviews — use templates to guide conversations.
Create an Interview Template
- Go to Resources → Templates.
- Click Templates under Interview Guide → Create Interview Guide Template (or click Create a Template → Interview in the top-right).
- Add a title and describe the template’s purpose.
- Write your interview questions or topics.
- (Optional) Check Use as default for every customer interview to set it as default.
- Click Save changes.
Edit or Delete
- Go to Resources → Templates → Interview Guide.
- Choose to Edit or Delete by these icons:

- Confirm deletions carefully — this action cannot be undone.
Duplicate
- Go to Resources → Templates → Interview Guide.
- Click ⋯ → Duplicate.
- Only available in the kanban view.
- Rename and modify as needed → Save changes.
Apply to a Study
- In a published study, under Execution, click on Interview Guide, then select Templates to choose the desired template.
Email Templates
Save time and ensure consistent communication.
Create an Email Template
- Go to Resources → Templates → Email.
- Click Create Email Template (or Create a Template → Email).
- Add a title, select an Email Use Case, and write your subject and body.
- Include attributes and CTA placeholders where needed.
- (Optional) Check Set as default template on account.
- Click Save changes.
Edit, Delete, or Duplicate
- From the Email Templates page:
- Edit: Click the pencil icon.
- Delete: Click trash icon → Confirm & Delete.
- Duplicate: Click duplicate icon → Edit → Save changes.

Apply to a Study
- In a published study, under Execution, click on Interview Guide, then select Templates to choose the desired template.
Survey Templates
Tired of retyping the same questions? Survey templates let you store and reuse your survey content.
Create a Survey Template
- Go to Resources → Templates → Survey.
- Click Create Survey Template (or Create a Template → Survey).
- Add a title and your questions.
- Changes save automatically.
Edit or Delete
- Go to Resources → Templates → Survey.
- Choose to Edit or Delete by these icons:

- Confirm deletions carefully — this action cannot be undone.
Use a Survey Template in a New Study
- Click New Study from the sidebar or Studies → New Study.
- Under Library, select the template you desire.


Apply a Template to Existing Studies
- Open a study.
- Click Screener or Survey in the left menu.
- Click the Library icon (top-right).
- Choose Templates tab (default).
- Search and select a template → Use this Template → Confirm.
Guides
Guides to help your team get started as soon as possible.
Create a Guide
- Go to Resources → Templates → Guides.
- Click Create new guide in the top right corner.
- Add a title and any information is beneficial for the guide you are creating.
- You can add images, links and embed any content.
- Once done, click Publish in the top right corner.
Sharing Templates & Guides with Your Team
- All templates & guides are available to everyone on your team with a Great Question account.
- You can create organization-specific templates in your account under Resources → Templates.
- You can create guides in your account under Resources → Guides.
- Encourage your team to start with company templates for consistency.
